Dear Students,
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to Columbia State Community College - Tennessee's first community college! We are excited you have chosen Columbia State as your college of choice and are committed to your success!
You will find Columbia State to be a student-centered College dedicated to providing a learning environment which is challenging and supportive. The College's 2020-2021 Academic Catalog has been prepared to assist you in applying for admission and financial aid, registering for classes, and for mapping your academic plan which will guide you on your journey.
Education is a lifelong journey and Columbia State will help you build a foundation that supports continuous learning throughout your life. Our goal is to help you succeed by providing an educational environment that nurtures your development for both life and work beyond Columbia State. You will find the C-State faculty and staff committed and dedicated to assisting you with any questions you may have. All College offices - Admissions, Financial Aid, and especially your assigned advisor - are here to work with you and provide you with a rich college experience.
I encourage you that while at Columbia State you become involved in the available extracurricular activities. You will find that participating in and/or attending the many activities available, your academic and personal growth will be greatly enriched. We offer the complete college experience through our campus life activities: plays, art exhibits, concerts, athletic events, competitions, curriculum/academic societies, and Student Government Association (SGA) to name a few. Through the college app, as well as the many video displays throughout the campus, you can keep up with all types of campus events so that you do not miss out on any opportunities.
Leadership opportunities are offered through membership in the President's Leadership Society (PLS), Student Government Association (SGA), Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), and other College clubs. Your college and academic experiences can be enhanced through participation in workshops, fieldtrips, teambuilding/leadership activities, and much more. I am personally involved in the PLS organization and hope that you will consider joining it.
Both employers and/or the college you transfer to will take notice of your degree/certificate from Columbia State and the extracurricular accomplishments achieved - it shows commitment, follow through, and completion of your goals.
As your College President, I am honored to extend a heartfelt welcome to you on behalf of everyone at Columbia State. As you pursue your education, it is my hope to have an opportunity to meet and become acquainted you. However, one of my greatest pleasures will be the opportunity to say "Congratulations" as you walk across the stage at graduation!! Welcome to Columbia State!
Sincerely,
Janet F. Smith, Ph.D.
President
