FCT 1100 - Entertainment Technology, Safety and Etiquette

This course is an overview of the entertainment production industry and discussion of current trends, technical terminology, working methods, and processes associated with a variety of production environments.  In addition, the course introduces the health and safety issues, practices, regulations, and etiquette associated with working in the motion picture industry.  The course emphasizes safe uses and behaviors for working on stages, sets and studios.  The course explores career opportunities in the stage and film industry with special emphasis on relationships between various job categories, and roles of "below the line" production crews.  The course also addresses use of hazardous materials, the identification and mitigation of hazards and unsafe practices as well emphasizing situation-appropriate behavior, conflict resolution, working effectively in teams, and applicable regulations/laws regarding workplace behavior.  Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of product on methods, roles, responsibilities, and best-practices in regard to safety considerations, as well as put into practice the skills necessary to function on a set.
