An introductory course in the philosophy of art which surveys various theories from ancient times to contemporary applications, concentrating on several central debates in the history of aesthetics: the definitions of art and beauty, the question of taste and aesthetic judgement, the nature of sensation, the function of representation, and the status of public and popular arts.
