Learn one of the most needed careers today! The focus of the class is learning the art of coding, the rules and guidelines for the procedures, diagnoses and supplies that are used in the practice of medicine for reimbursement. These classes will prepare a student to 1) analyze medical records and assign codes to medical conditions, symptoms, diseases, lab, x-ray, surgery and diagnoses, 2) establish proper documentation for billing any code to an insurance company to maintain accuracy is important to the coder, 3) understand how components of the documentation will be applied. Billing for surgeries is complex, knowing when an unusual circumstance occurs in order to achieve accurate reimbursement for the work accomplished will be achieved through the knowledge of applying modifiers. A foundation for coding radiology procedures which includes body positions and x-ray technique is included. Accurate codes ensure correct reimbursement but also provide a means for research and statistical data. These classes will prepare you to find entry level employment opportunities in physician’s offices, billing offices, hospitals, insurance companies and medical consulting firms. The training involves 90 classroom hours, and each student should be prepared to spend an additional 20-30 hours per week in self-study. This course prepares students to take a nationally recognized certification exam.
